The mission of the Sacramento Suburban Water District is "to deliver a high quality, reliable supply of water and superior customer service at the lowest responsible water rate."  The District is a publicly owned and operated water utility located in the County of Sacramento with two main offices for field and administrative staff, which currently number 69 full-time employees.

The Position

The Sacramento Suburban Water District (SSWD), located in Sacramento, California, is a publicly owned and operated water utility formed in 2002 resulting from the merger of two agencies. SSWD provides water to its customers from 72 operational groundwater wells.

SSWD manages the water infrastructure with a robust versioned GIS Enterprise Geodatabase.

Under direct supervision, the GIS employee will perform a variety of duties, including:

  • Completing GIS-related work order tasks to update water facility infrastructure
  • Respond to red-line map updates submitted by field staff
  • Responding to special mapping projects requested by staff
  • Work on scanning, archiving and attaching backlog of historical engineering maps
  • Adjusting various polygon data throughout the SSWD service area to match the newly rebuilt County GIS Parcel Base Map
  • Plus various other projects as needed

Temporary position is limited to a maximum of 29 work hours per week and not eligible for employee benefits.

Qualifications

Required: High school diploma or equivalent; ability to operate a computer using common office computer software programs, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and ESRI ArcMap software 10.0 or above. Knowledge of ArcMap Pro is desirable.

Other Requirements

Candidates must possess a valid California Class “C” Driver’s License and have a good driving record. The successful candidate must pass a criminal background check, pre-employment physical exam, drug screen and alcohol test.
