January 2020

Happy New Year from all of us at Sacramento Suburban Water District. We hope 2020 and this new decade brings you peace, happiness and success.

At SSWD, we look forward to continuing to deliver high-quality water to our customers and investing in the water system so that we can do so long into the future.

This January marks the start of a five-year rate increase approved by the Board of Directors last fall. The increase was recommended by an independent financial consulting firm, which prepared a detailed Rate Study of SSWD’s revenues, operation and maintenance costs, capital investment plan and reserves.

The Rate Study found that SSWD’s income and planned expenses are well-balanced and managed, but recommended a modest rate increase to primarily cover the costs of inflation.

Based on the Rate Study’s analysis, the Board voted to approve the following rate increases:

  • 5 percent in 2020
  • 4 percent in 2021
  • 3 percent per year in 2022, 2023 and 2024

You can view the new rates and charges for 2020 here.

I am pleased to announce that in November, the Board of Directors approved a new budget for Calendar Year 2020. The total budget is approximately $51 million. The Capital Improvement budget is approximately $19.5 million. This allows us to make necessary improvements to our water system. Some of these major projects for 2020 include:

  • Replacing up to 4.4 miles of distribution main lines
  • Installing over 1,000 water meters
  • Continuing the design and construction of the two new groundwater wells
  • Acquiring land for future groundwater well sites

Read a detailed breakdown of the budget.

The careful stewardship of SSWD’s water system and financial resources are one of our utmost priorities at SSWD. The Board of Directors, District management and staff are all dedicated and continue to innovate and improve our water system, maintain planning efforts and initiatives, and committed to delivering high-quality water and reliable service to our customers, 24/7

March Tap Talk Live

On Friday, March 27th from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., SSWD staff and I will hold our inaugural Tap Talk Live, a bi-monthly speakers series covering our operations and water-related issues. This first Tap Talk will address the Strategic Plan, our steps toward implementing its goals and provide a look at the year ahead. The talk will take place in the boardroom at the District’s Administrative office at 3701 Marconi Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95821.
