Following the ‘shelter in place’ issued on March 20, 2020, by Sacramento County (www.saccounty.net/COVID-19), Sacramento Suburban Water District (SSWD) is transitioning to modified operations for employees and customers. Our highest priority is keeping our staff and customers safe. 

The Sacramento County Public Health Officer has issued a new Public Health Order SacCounty Health Officer Extends COVID-19 Order effective at 11:59 p.m., May 1, and will be in effect until 11:59 p.m., May 22, 2020, or until it is extended, rescinded, superseded or amended in writing by the Health Officer.

Deliveries of drinking water will not be impacted, and SSWD will continue meeting state and federal drinking water standards. 

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends that Americans continue using and drinking tap water as usual, which is explained more thoroughly by the American Water Works Association in the following link - Article from ACWA Regarding Drinking Water.  Further, EPA’s drinking water regulations require treatment by public water systems, as conducted by SSWD, to remove or kill pathogens, including viruses.

Minor SSWD Operational Changes to Note:

  • Customer Service - Available to assist customers by phone at 916-972-7171, or email help@sswd.org. Representatives are available between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.

  • Finance – Customer and vendor payments will continue being processed. However, it may take longer than normal.

  • Engineering and Development Services – Development Plan Review, Inspection, and Fire Flow Information Services will continue but may take longer than normal.

  • Water Operations - As part of SSWD’s response to requests associated with the COVID-19 virus from the Governor and State and local public health officials, SSWD is implementing specific operational changes that are designed to minimize person-to-person contact. These changes are designed to protect our staff, their families and our customers. The Water Operations Department will reduce its responses to emergencies only, but will continue to receive non-emergency contact from customers and respond to after business hours calls.  

  • Water Conservation – In an effort to comply with social distancing recommendations, SSWD has placed our in-person Water Wise House Call and Leak Investigation Services on hold.  However, our Water Conservation Team is ready to assist customers remotely with any questions you may have about your water use.  Please call 916-275-4847, or email feedback@sswd.org for assistance.
