How to Identify SSWD Employees

SSWD employees are frequently in the field to maintain and inspect water mains, pipelines, and other facilities. Though there is generally not a need for SSWD employees to enter a customer's home, there are occasions when the District may need access to your property. District employees typically schedule appointments in advance, and are required to carry photo ID cards.

SSWD employees can be identified by the following:

• Uniforms with the SSWD logo
• Photo ID tag clearly displayed
• White vehicle with SSWD logo

SSWD recommends that customers be alert and suspicious if a person comes to your home without an appointment and asks to check your water system. Do not let anyone into your home without verifying his or her identity.

If a person requests permission to enter your property, SSWD urges customers to do the following:

1. Do not allow the person to enter your home.
2. Ask for the person’s name.
3. Request to see his/her SSWD photo ID card and check the photo.
4. Call SSWD at 916.972.7171 to verify his/her identity.

If you do suspect the person is a water utility imposter, immediately notify the police and inform SSWD by calling 916.972.7171.
