Miami/Woodson/Belcrest/Whitney Improvement Project

This four part project is located in SSWD's North Service Area. The project placed water facilities where no water mains existed between two sections of dead end water mans and relocated water services from a backyard water main to an existing water main located in the public right of way.

The connection of these dead end sections of water mains enhances circulation and improves flows and pressures within the affected areas. New water services and fire hydrants were relocated and/or upgraded as a result of connecting the existing water mains. The inferior water mains in the backyard were abandoned. The scope of work for the four locations was as follows:

  • Miami Street - Placement of new water main between two dead end existing water mains.
  • Woodson Avenue - Placement of new water main between two dead end existing water mains.
  • Belcrest Way - Placement of new water main between two dead end existing water mains, relocation of four existing backyard water services and abandonment of 750 feet of existing backyard water main.
  • Whitney Avenue - Relocation of six existing water services from an existing water main in Whitney Avenue including relocation of an existing fire hydrant. The relocation will remove facilities from an existing smaller, older, redundant dead end water main to a newer, larger, parallel looped water main on Whitney Avenue. The redundant water main will be abandoned. Construction was completed in 2007.
