Outdoor Watering Times
The Sacramento Suburban Water District (SSWD) Board of Directors adopted new regulations limiting outdoor watering to off-peak hours. The rules, Regulation No. 15 adopted in December 2009 as part of the district’s water conservation regulations, recommends:
- Water any time except noon through 8:00 p.m.
- Limiting your outdoor watering to three days per week.
The rules are a departure from the odd-even watering schedule that has been in place for many years. The new rules are aimed at maximizing water and energy efficiency, since watering at off-peak energy hours translates directly into energy savings. Watering at off-peak hours also means less peak demand on the water system and less water lost to evaporation during the heat of the day.
SSWD’s rules prohibit water from running off a lawn, to adjoining properties or to a roadside ditch or gutter. The rules also outline enforcement procedures the District will implement. View the complete regulations here.
