This water main replacement project is part of ongoing improvements within the Del Paso Manor Service Area (DPMSA), which was consolidated into Sacramento Suburban Water District (SSWD) to improve long-term water system reliability. 

Many of the existing water mains in this area are constructed of older ODS (orangeburg-type) material, which is no longer considered an acceptable piping material under current industry standards and has reached the end of its useful life, resulting in an increased frequency of leaks and failures. 

The DPMSA Area 2D Main Replacement Project includes installation of new water distribution pipelines within public streets to replace existing backyard water mains that have outlived their useful life. As part of this work, many residential service connections will be relocated to the front of properties and upgraded to include new water meters. 

Prior to consolidation, the DPMSA system faced challenges related to aging infrastructure and limited resources for system-wide upgrades. As part of the transition, SSWD is investing in critical improvements to enhance water quality, system reliability, and fire protection capacity for the community

Major project fact:

• 20,184 feet of 6-,8-, and 12-inch diameter pipe is to be installed. 
• Backyard services will be relocated to the front yard, where the new mains are installed.
• 435 new metered services will be installed.
• The construction cost is estimated to be $20 million and will be grant funded.

Schedule:

• A community outreach event (targeted for Fall 2026) will be held to inform the community of this project. A postcard will be sent out to affected community members to inform them of the date and location of this community outreach event. 
• Pre-construction activities will begin late summer 2026 to fall 2026.   
• Construction activities is anticipated to begin at the end of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027.
